2010 > Peru > Day 11-15: Mt. Salkantay

We started the 5 day mountain part of the trip Saturday. The first night we slept at 13,000 feet. Then we did a 2 hour hike up to 15,000 feet and stayed there 2 nights. From that camp, we hiked to the Salkantay Lagoon at 17,000 feet.

During the day it was between 40 and 50 degrees, at night it got down to around 20 degrees, maybe a little colder, and at times it was windy. I was pretty well prepared for the cold and was comfortable just about the whole trip.

The food was fantastic! Our cook Alex was a huge gift. The Four Winds did a great job with the logistics and the trip was very well run.

It was an amazing experience from start to end. Having Salkantay hanging over us all the time was a beautiful experience.
