Some Questions as “Game of Thrones” Season 3 Begins

khaleesi

At the end of season 2 (here's a review of where the season left off) I had some questions about some things that happened, and some things that may happen. Note, I have not read the books so I have no idea what is next.

  • Who burned down Winterfell? At the end of season 2 Winterfell was destroyed, but we don't see how it is done. Theon Greyjoy was taken away, but Winterfell was burned down sometime after that. Was it the fleeing Greyjoy clan? Rob Stark's allies who captured Greyjoy? A lightning strike? The will of the Gods, old and new? Hodor!
  • Where is The Hound? He left the battle at King's Landing in disgust and defied his King. For some reason he ended up in Sansa Stark's room and asked if to go North. She didn't agree to go. Where did The Hound head to after that? It seems doubtful he's going to settle down on a nice farm and raise fierce puppies.
  • Will Khaleesi be met with an enthralled public when she arrives in Westeros? She seems to think so. A silvered haired leader of a band of Dothraki wearing dragons on her shoulders should definitely get folks attention.
  • Will the coming of the dragons and the White Walkers force an allegiance between the Starks and the Lannisters? Westeros is likely about to come under attack from two strong forces: White Walkers and dragons. The Lannisters and Starks may have to put their differences aside to survive. I doubt it, but it is possible. Maybe through a marraige? Tyrion-Sansa? Jamie-Sansa? That seems crazy. How about Cersei-Bran? LOL.
  • Will the dragons be a weapon against the White Walkers? The only way to really kill a White Walker is to burn it. Seems like the dragons will be a great weapon against them. If so… maybe the Starks and the Lannisters will be trying to make an allegiance with Khaleesi.
  • Why was Stannis Baratheon allowed to live after losing the battle at King's Landing? He sits in a prison now with the Red Priestess Melisandre. WTF? That guy should totally be whacked.
  • What is Sansa Stark going to do? She knows she needs to get out of King's Landing now that she is not engaged to the King Joffrey. Will she band with The Hound and head north? It feels like she is an important piece of the story going forward, but I don't know why.
  • Where is Arya Stark going? She chose not to be trained by the shapeshifting assassin Jaqen H'ghar in Bravvos. But where is she headed? She says she needs to find her family. Is she heading to Winterfell? If so, she will find it in ruins without any of her family there. Is she heading to a saloon to change that terrible haircut?
  • Will Cersei Lannister be killed by Joffrey? She can't control him and her father will probably make things worse now that he is The Hand. You never know who is going to die in this series. Why not her? God knows she's not the nicest person. It would seem just as she started the last chaing of events that ended with Ned Stark losing his head.
  • When is everyone going to figure out that Gendry is the heir to the Iron Throne? He's the eldest son of the king. It is rightfully his kingdom. Joffrey is trying to find and kill him but hasn't been successful. Gendry has already made a bit of an alliance with Arya Stark. He seems like a good guy. Make him King! What the hell.
  • What is Rob Stark's next move? The Lannister army is now at King's Landing. Is he going to lay siege there? Maybe he'll just go on his honeymoon and take a few months off.
  • Will Rob Stark's marriage open up a two front war? He was promised to another woman (One of the daughters of Lord Walder Frey) and broke that promise with his marriage to Talisa…. Lord Frey is going to be pissed and will likely come after him. If so, it could trap the army between Land's End and Frey's "Crossing." Moral of the story, don't let your mom pick your wife.
  • Who is defending The Wall? Most of the Night's Watch seems to be out beyond the wall looking for Benjen Stark. Who is left at The Wall as the White Walkers are approaching? How will the White Walkers get over The Wall? Do they know how to operate elevators?
  • Will Margaery Tyrell (actress Natalie Dormer aka Anne Boleyn) lose her head? Seems like as she's playing such a similar character as on "The Tudors"…. so why not? Also, if you were going to pick one person to lose their head it seems like the people closest to King Joffrey are the best bets. And…. that speech she made at the end of season 2 about her love for Joffrey was so bad I'm not sure her head is all that attached to her body already.
  • What is Tyrion Lannister going to do now that he is no longer The Hand? He wants to stay at King's Landing, but his sister wants to kill him. Will he become a business man? Maybe work something out with Little Finger? His father, now The Hand, seems to value his skills. Maybe he will work for him in the backgound. Or maybe he'll just feel bad for himself and go on a whoring and drinking binge like in season 1.
  • Who will Varys align himself with? It seems like he wants to do the right thing when he can. Will he form a secret alliance with the Starks? We already know he thinks the dragons will make King's Landing vulnerable. Will he start working for Khaleesi? Will he wear something other than a robe this season?

The early reviews are that season 3 looks great. Can't wait!
