A Great Picture: Bruins Cap Crazy Comeback in OT Against Toronto!

This is such a great picture of one of the most memorable sports nights I've seen in quite a while. The Bruins came back to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in a miracle comeback to win game 7 in overtime. With one a coupe of minutes left in the game the Elias Sports Bureau has the Leafs with at 99.99% chance of winning the game. The Bruins had a 1 in 10,000 chance of coming back… and they did!

This picture is just fantastic. Here's what I love about it:

  • The joy and excitement in Bergeron, Marchand, and Seguin's faces.
  • It is team first. They are all rushing to meet the teammates they know are up the ice. Nobody is banging their chest, looking to the sky for a blessing, and nobody's pointing into the stands. Its a team moment. In the NBA or NFL there would be plenty of self congratulations going on right then.
  • The fans in the background are just starting with their celebration. Most of them are screaming and their arms are in the air. And they are almost all wearing black.
  • The ref is right there looking into the net to confirm the goal.
  • The conquered goalie lying on the ice, head down, is a great contrast. It is a very tough moment for a Toronto team that played hard for 7 games and thought they won the series. They are a good, young, tough team. They remind of the Bruins in 2009 when they came up short in their comeback attempt against Montreal.

Anyway… I've watched alot of hockey and that was one of the craziest games I've ever seen.

This stat puts it in perspective: No team in NHL history as overcome a 3 goal deficit in the 3rd period of a Game 7. That's it.

I wonder how many have scored 2 goals with their goalie pulled?

Here's the highlights:
