"The Wire" character Tommy Carcetti
Baltimore politician Martin O'Malley started out as a City Councilman then moved his way up to the Mayore of the city. If that sounds familiar to folks, it is the path the character Tommy Carcetti followed on "The Wire". And that should come as no surprise because Carcetti's character was partly based on O'Malley. O'Malley's story goes beyond the TV show's plot as he became Governor of Maryland.
O'Mally is considered a possible 2016 Presidential contender. Will his "The Wire" tie in become a story line for a campaign. I have seen him referred to as Carcetti by the media a few times (always makes me laugh). It probably won't be a factor, but it is still fun to think of life after the series for Carcetti's character.

There's a great article on The Daily Beast that goes into this in more detail and contains this quote summing up the chances voters will think about "The Wire" connection:
Huge numbers of Democratic voters in Iowa and New Hampshire will need to have some familiarity with The Wire—and at least in Iowa, it’s not clear just how sizeable those numbers are.
What's up with Iowa? Do they not have HBO? Or even DVD players?
