A Good New Show for the Summer: “Ray Donovan” on Showtime

Ray Donovan

I've watched the first 5 episodes of "Ray Donovan" on Showtime and I've really liked it so far. Liev Schreiber is great as Ray Donovan who grow up hard in South Boston but now is a fixer in Hollywood. He's outward appearance is always calm despite the chaos his life is in.  There's a very good supporting class including Elliot Gould, Steven Bauer, Katerhine Moenning, Jon Cryer, and Jon Voight.

It has those qualities you expect of high quality permium cable dramas: Long story arcs, several interesting subplots going on at the same time, strong atmosphere where you feel like you've enetered their world, and characters with depth that are not cardboard cutouts.

The critical reviews have been very good, it was Showtime's highest-rated original-series premiere, and it has already been renewed for a second season. My guess is that it is going to be around for a while.

The Boston accents of the Donovan family are hilarious.
