The State of the Bruins: It Isn’t Pretty

What Bruins fans have sat through for the last 2 months (since that terrible loss to the dreaded Canucks) is to watch a team that is a shadow of itself when you compare it to last year's epic Stanley Cup run or what we saw this January and December. So what is wrong? A few things are prominent:

  • Zdeno Chara is not playing at his best. It has been better lately, he is still very good. But it is not his top game.
  • Same goes for Tim Thomas who was playing great until he decided to become a political lightning rod on Facebook. Since then he as been average on alot of nights. And way below average on others.
  • David Krejci looks bored and lifeless. At least he did until they paired him up with Seguin which seems to have brought him back to life.
  • Brad Marchand has been scoring goals, but he has lost that tenacious edge to his forechecking game since the 5 game suspension after the Canucks game.
  • Chris Kelly has cooled off.
  • They miss the fire of Andrew Ferrence.
  • They lack fire overall.

So what will happen to them? All Bruins fans hope they "wake up" soon. Maybe they can. They are a deep, tough, fast, skilled team with a great defense. They have the players that can forecheck as well as any in the league. If they can find their rhythm, they could make a deep run. They are certainly a team that looks to be built for the playoffs. But after watching them for the last 2 months and having seen them give up so many terrible 3rd period goals, I'm just not sure they have the fire to do that now. You can put me in the skeptical camp. But I was there last year too and boy was I wrong!

One good thing is the fire Lucic is showing every night along with the 4th line. At least someone is showing up most nights!
