Bruins Shutdown Blackhawks in Game 3: Hawks Have Not Scored in 122 Minutes

Patrice Bergeron scores on the powerplay to make it 2-0 Boston

The Bruins are feeling it. They have been locked in for the last couple of weeks and their defense continues to frustrate opponents.

Some overall observations:

  • The Bruins are 11-0-2 since game 6 against Toronto.  Their only losses coming in OT to the Rangers in game 4 and Chicago in game 1.
  • The Blackhawks haven't scored in 122:26. That's 2 full games since their early 1st period goal in game 2 which went into OT.

About game 3:

  • The Bruins killed them in the faceoff circle winning 71% of the draws.
  •  The new 3rd line strikes again! Paille with a great steal and goal. Boom! Seguin and Kelly are also playing great. Kelly looks like he's finally getting healthy after his breaking his leg earlier in the season.
  • Lucic continues to pound people. He's a dominating force.
  • The Krecji, Hornton, Lucic line hasn't scored since game 1, but they continually are putting pressure on the Hawks D
  • Chara is quietly dominating this series. His half of the ice has become off limits for some of the Hawks best players. I don't remember seing Patrick Kane play so much on the left side before…. lol.
  • Tuukka is loudly dominating this series. He's in the right place at the right time and giving up very few rebounds. Great stuff.
  • Patrice Bergeron is the Best Bruins forward since Cam Neely. He continues to produce in all phases of the game and was ridiculous in the face off circle last night. He led the team with 7 shots on net last night, had a power play goal, and went 24-4 in the faceoff circle.
  • Referee Chris Rooney strikes again. He always seems to make one terrible call against the Bruins in every game. Folks thinks its because he doesn't want people to think he's favoring his hometown team. Rooney is from South Boston.
  • The Hawks are shying away from contact. At almost very turn in the first and second period you say the Bruins driving at the Hawks and the Hawks often turning away, or trying to skate around to avoid the hits. This GIF from game 2 though extereme, is a great example:
    • bailout
  • The Hawks looked frustrated. We saw it from the Rangers and the Penguins too. They just can't do what they normally want to right now.
  • The Bruins D is keeping much of the play in their own end to the outside. Very seldom are the Hawks able to get the puck to the middle of the ice. Alot of that is great stick work from all 5 players on the ice.

The Hawks are a very good team. If the Bruins take game 4, this series will swing heavily in their favor. You know we are going to see the best of the Hawks in that game. Hopefully the Bruins will be able to maintain their strong play in their own end and keep wearing them down.

"Hockey Night in Canada" does a montage opening before each Finals game and last night's with Neil Young was pretty awesome.
